Initially established to offer professional development opportunities through in-house training, workshops, and seminars, UTMSPACE expanded in the 1995/96 academic year to include mainstream diploma and undergraduate programs, responding to the growing demand for flexible and accessible education. Today, UTMSPACE offers a wide variety of diploma and undergraduate programs that incorporate modules from UTM's main faculties, thereby ensuring academic excellence and practical relevance.

With 17 strategically located learning centers across Malaysia, UTMSPACE provides a convenient and accessible education experience for individuals across the nation. Its Professional Programmes are specifically crafted to build both technical and soft skills, featuring short courses tailored to meet the needs of specific industries. In addition, UTMSPACE offers Professional Skills Certificates, equipping graduates with valuable credentials that give them a competitive advantage in the job market.

UTMSPACE's Executive Foundation, Bachelor, Diploma, and English Language programs exemplify its commitment to delivering outstanding continuing education. The Executive Diploma programs are tailored for working professionals who seek to advance their knowledge and skills for career progression. Meanwhile, the English Language programs support international students aiming to strengthen their language proficiency for academic success. UTMSPACE actively aligns its offerings with community needs, backed by robust promotional and marketing strategies. Following UTM’s elevation to Research University status in 2010, UTMSPACE assumed the management of UTM’s College of Science and Technology (KST) and the Joint Programme Management Unit (UPPK). This strategic role allows UTMSPACE to spearhead Full-Time Diploma programs and manage Joint Diploma Programs in collaboration with 17 private colleges, widening access to quality education.

On January 28, 2011, UTMSPACE reached a significant milestone by officially registering as a Limited Company by Guarantee, cementing its role as a commercial arm of UTM focused on lifelong learning.
